WPL 2023 5th Match: DC-W vs UPW-W; DC defeated UPW by 42 runs, McGrath missed her first century

5th match of WPL 2023 between Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz played at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. UPW Captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and chose to field first. DC openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Varma flying off the innings. In the powerplay they added 62 runs without losing any wicket. DC made the target of 211 runs in 20 overs by losing 4 wickets.



Meg Lanning was clean bowled by Rajeshwari Gayakwad scoring 70 runs. Before that Alice Capsey (21), Shafali Varma (17) and Marizanne Kapp (16) were out. UP Warriorz Gayakwad, Sophie, Shabnim and Mcgrath took 1-1 wicket each.

In the 7th over of the match, Shafali Varma were returned to the pavilion on the bowl of McGrath. Kiran caught the catch. In the 11th over Kapp were caught by Deepti Sharma on the bowl of Sophie. She added 12 runs for 16 balls. In 12th over, Lanning were bowled out by Gayakwad, 70 runs for 42 balls. 



In between the match was paused for thirty minutes due to rain after 9 overs of the match. Till that time DC score was 87 runs on the verge of 1 wicket loss. On the crease Lanning (53) and Kapp (9) were batting at that time.  

Chasing 222 runs, UPW started playing the innings with openers Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sehrawat. Healy flying off the start of the innings and after contributing 24 runs for 17 balls to the Team score her wicket fell down. After this UPW lost 3 wickets for 33 runs. Shweta and Kiran were out for 1 for 6 balls and 2 runs respectively.



While playing in a good partnership with Tahlia McGrath; Deepti Sharma scored 12 runs and returned to pavilion. Devika contributed 23 runs to the Team’s score. Only McGrath played the not out innings of 90 runs for 50 balls, but couldn’t made her Team win. She also missed to conquer her century by 10 runs.

In the 20 overs, UPW could made it to 169 runs by losing 5 wickets and lost the match to Delhi Capitals.



Out of the 5 wickets that were down for UPW, 3 wickets took by Jess Jonassen for Allys Healy, Kiran Navgire and Devika. Kapp and Shikha Pandey took 1-1 wicket each. DC defeated UPW by 42 runs.

This was the DC second victory in the WPL 2023 series. Earlier they defeated RCB by 60 runs.
