Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Highlights: India vs West Indies; India defeated West Indies by 6 wickets

The ninth game of the Women's T20 World Cup was held at Newlands Cape Town, where India faced off against West Indies. The West Indies team won the toss and chose to bat first, but their captain, Matthews, was dismissed early in the match, after only scoring 2 runs, which was a disappointment after her good performance in the previous game. However, Taylor and Compbelle formed a strong partnership, adding 73 runs to their team's score. Taylor played an excellent innings, hitting 42 runs in 40 balls. Deepti Sharma, who had a tough time in the last match, bowled brilliantly and took three important wickets for just 15 runs in her four overs, while Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar also took one wicket each. Deepti Sharma's remarkable performance in bowling restricted the West Indies team to a total score of just 118 runs.

India had a target of 119 runs to chase and they began on a positive note with Shafali Verma hitting three fours right in the first over. However, Smriti Mandhana, who was making a comeback after an injury, could only score 10 runs before getting dismissed. Even Rodrigues, who had been the man of the match in the last game, failed to perform and was out for just 1 run. After losing three wickets, the match seemed to be slipping away from India's grasp. But then, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh came to the crease and built a crucial partnership of 73 runs. Ghosh played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 44 runs in just 32 balls to help India clinch the victory. Deepti Sharma's impressive bowling performance also contributed to India's win as they managed to restrict West Indies to a small total.
