Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Highlights: West Indies vs Ireland; West Indies defeated Ireland and registered their first win

The 13th match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023 saw Ireland and West Indies teams face each other. Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first. However, they had a disappointing start and lost their first wicket at just 1 run. Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast played well and put on a partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket, which was the highest partnership of Ireland in the World Cup. Prendergast played a crucial innings and added 61 runs in 47 balls while Lewis added 38 runs in 34 balls to support her. Ireland was on track for a high score, but West Indies bowlers did an excellent job in the death overs and took 7 wickets for just 20 runs, restricting Ireland to 137. Connell was the star bowler for West Indies and took 3 wickets, while Ramharack and Fletcher took two wickets each.

The West Indies team started off chasing 137 runs but lost their first wicket, Williams, after scoring 28 runs. However, they managed to turn the game around thanks to Captain Mathews who played a remarkable unbeaten inning of 66 runs in just 53 balls. Henry also supported him well by scoring 34 runs in 28 balls. The team achieved the score of 137 in 20 overs and beat Ireland by 6 wickets. Matthews was named the player of the match for his outstanding performance.
