Varun Chakaravarthy is a cricketer from India who plays as a leg-spinner for Tamil Nadu and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is a right-handed batsman and bowls leg-break googly. Varun is known for his mysterious bowling style, which is similar to the Sri Lankan mystery spinner, Ajanta Mendis.
Varuan's birthplace is Bidar, Karnataka, and he was born on August 29th, 1991. He marked his List A debut in 2018 during the Vijay Hazare Trophy and managed to secure the leading wicket-taker position with 22 dismissals in 9 matches. Later that year, he made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu.
He was purchased by the Kings XI Punjab for ₹8.4 Cr in 2018. Later, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for the 2020 IPL season. On 24th October 2020, he achieved his first five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals. In 2021, he was the highest wicket-taker for KKR.
He started playing Twenty20 matches in 2019 and was later selected for the ODI and T20I teams against Sri Lanka in 2021. He was also picked for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
